Analysis

Week ending Sep 27

Georgia pecan harvest advances as New Mexico lags average

For the week ending September 27, Georgia's pecan crop stood 68% good to excellent, with harvest 48% complete. New Mexico's crop rated 69% good to excellent, but that reading sat 23 points below its five-year average, the only comparison point in this week's data. Only two states, Georgia and New Mexico, are reporting weekly pecan condition; the rest of the pecan belt, including Alabama, Arizona, Texas-adjacent Oklahoma and the other Southeastern and Southwestern producers, had no figures this week. With Georgia's harvest just under half finished and New Mexico trailing its typical condition, the next weekly USDA report will show whether Georgia's pace holds and whether New Mexico's gap to average narrows or widens as harvest there gets underway.
