Vermont pear harvest running well ahead of pace
Vermont's pear crop was rated 75% good to excellent for the week ending September 27, unchanged from the week before, with none of the crop rated poor or very poor. Harvest reached 70% complete, well ahead of the five-year average of 38% and ahead of last year's 54% at the same point. Bloom had lagged earlier in the season, with full bloom at 75% by June 21 versus 94% last year, but that gap did not carry through to condition or harvest pace. The next USDA report will show whether harvest finishes at this faster clip.
